“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” John 1:1-3 (NKJV)
The verses above are the first 3 in the Gospel of John. Interestingly, this introduction to “The Word” runs parallel with Genesis 1, which also begins, “In the beginning…” In Genesis 1 we we are told that the earth was void & empty. This state of “nothingness” continued until verse 3 when God began to speak. Once God began to speak and His Word was introduced into the situation, everything changed. Hebrews 11:3 says, “By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command.” It was the Words spoken by God that created everything we see.
Those first 3 verses from the Gospel of John (quoted above) are talking about the Word of God. It tells us that God does not create anything apart from His Word. Everything God brings about, everything He forms, fashions, initiates, generates, etc. is done BY and THROUGH the Word. John 1:3 in Moffatt’s translation reads, “through him all existence came into being, no existence came into being apart from him.”
Understanding this is so important for the believer. Most believers know they are supposed to read the Bible, but never fully understand why they should read it. If you want God to do anything in your life, it all starts with His Word. The Word of God is a creative force. For every desire to see something new occur in your life, the answer is the Word of God. For every longing for something fresh, the answer is the Word. Whatever it is that you want to see God do in your life, your finances or your family, understand what John 1:3 is telling us. God does not bring anything into existence apart from the Word.
God does not bring anything into existence apart from the Word.
Resolve to spend time in the Word every day. Feed on it. Memorize it. Meditate on it. Watch the Word begin to do what only the Word can do.
